Buyer's Dilemma
Compare cars before you buy
Which models fail MOTs more often?
Shortlisted two to five cars? Compare their MOT pass rates, common faults and failure patterns before arranging viewings.
Most adverts tell you about one car. This report compares the makes and models on your shortlist, using official UK DVSA MOT data for vehicles of the same age band.
For each contender, you'll see:
- MOT pass rate
- Number of MOT tests analysed
- Failure breakdown by category
- Most frequently recorded DVSA defect codes
- Advisory, major and dangerous defect patterns
Use it to compare
- Which model has the strongest MOT record for the selected age band
- Whether failures are mostly routine maintenance, wear and tear, or recurring systemic faults
- What to inspect during a viewing or test drive
- Whether a cheaper option may carry more typical MOT issues
Important
The rankings compare only the cars in your shortlist. They describe model-level MOT trends for the selected age band, not the condition of one individual vehicle.
This is not a registration check. For the MOT history of a specific vehicle, use a dedicated vehicle history check. This tool compares makes and models as groups using aggregated UK DVSA MOT data.
